Our Diamond Painting Canvas: Learn the DAC Difference

Diamond art painting is one of the coolest and trendiest types of crafts on the market right now. If you’ve never tried it, browse through our collection of fantastic diamond painting kits online and give it a go! Diamond paintings use small, faceted beads, called “drills,” to create a larger mosaic image. Drills are also referred to as rhinestones, diamonds, or gems. And while some kits have square drills, others feature round ones. Much like cross-stitch and painting by numbers, diamond painting involves placing drills of certain colors in specific places to form a larger image. Depending on how large or small the canvas and how detailed the design, a project can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks. Once finished, each diamond painting is a stunning work of art that can be used as home decor or given as a gift.

If you’ve been looking for a new craft to try, pick up a diamond art painting kit and experience the fun for yourself. For those who are new to painting with diamonds, we’ve created a guide to all the features that set Diamond Art Club® kits above the rest. From our self-flattening canvas, to our special glue adhesive, to our branded packaging, learn more about the Diamond Art Club® difference below. First, let’s discuss the importance of our specially designed canvas that works in conjunction with our high-tech, poured glue adhesive. These two important features lay the foundations for our 5D diamond painting kits that will become your masterpiece.

What Makes Our Diamond Painting Canvas Different?

Poured Glue Diamond Painting Canvas

All diamond painting kits require some type of adhesive so the drills will adhere to the canvas. However, some companies cut corners by simply applying double-sided tape to an inferior quality canvas. Unfortunately, this type of tape tends to lose its adhesion, particularly when the temperature changes. Which means you could be dealing with drills falling off the canvas while trying to complete your project.

Poured Glue Technique

At Diamond Art Club®, our diamond painting kits are created using a much more effective “cementing” technique. We start by coating our buttery-soft canvases with a special type of glue and then allow them to set in the drying chamber for many hours. This type of glue is particularly well suited for diamond art painting because it is extremely stable. It will not lose adhesion even in considerable temperature shifts because it has strong oxidation resistance. In addition to keeping your square or round diamonds securely in place, this type of glue will not peel off the canvas, freeing you from worry and annoyance.

Diamond Painting Kits Featuring Custom Canvas

One of the most frustrating things for avid diamond painters is opening a fresh canvas only to find that it is wrinkled and difficult to flatten. Of course, there are methods for removing wrinkles in your painting, but most people want to get started on their project as soon as they receive it without taking extra steps to make it functional.

LEARN HOW TO GET WRINKLES OUT OF A DIAMOND PAINTING CANVAS

Here at Diamond Art Club®, we wanted to eliminate this wrinkle problem and provide our customers with the highest-quality diamond painting canvas possible. So we decided to develop our very own, proprietary, patented canvas ourselves. It begins with a specially formulated, heavy-duty, waterproof tarpaulin fabric with serged edges. Then, every one of our designs is given a velvet backing that increases the strength of the canvas, holding the entire project together without fraying or creasing. This process ensures you always receive a canvas from Diamond Art Club® that is soft to the touch, and you’ll never have to worry about one coming out of the box wrinkled.

Superior Design Quality

The quality of the printed symbol color chart on each canvas is also critical, especially for beginner diamond painters. You need to be able to easily read the numbers and symbols to ensure you’re placing the correct color “rhinestone” in the right place. Other companies may use a low-resolution printer to produce this chart on their canvases. Sadly, this lower-cost method can cause the chart to appear "fuzzy" or even unreadable, making it difficult to determine which color drills go where.

Superior Color and Quality

Some companies will also try to save money by having a computer program convert the original artwork into colored pixels. Unfortunately, this process can end up causing even more frustration for crafters. Sections of the completed design may look unnatural or out of place because the color of the drills specified might not have been a great match to the original artwork.

At Diamond Art Club®, our designers devote hours sometimes days to creating each one of our canvas designs from scratch. We hand-place each color, pixel by pixel, to represent the original artwork as closely as possible. This method greatly enhances the image clarity of our diamond paintings. It also allows for superior color choices because the designers have placed each pixel intentionally by hand, rather than letting a computer program do the charting automatically. Hand-charting is much more time-consuming and intricate, but we’ve found it is required to meet our standards of excellence.

High-Quality Round Drills and Square Diamonds

When it comes to drills, there are a few different types on the market for you to choose from, round or square and resin or acrylic. However, the shape of the drills you choose has little to do with quality and is more a matter of personal preference. Some people like working with square drills as the edges make contact and prevent space between beads. Round drills are often a more suitable choice for beginners just learning to paint with diamonds as they are easier to place. Still, round drills do not line up exactly, which creates a small space between each diamond. Some crafters find these tiny gaps bothersome, while others do not. At Diamond Art Club®, we offer a wide variety of diamond painting kits in both diamond shapes to suit everyone’s preference.

And there’s more to drills than just their shape. The most inexpensive way to manufacture drills is by combining glass and plastic to form acrylic beads. Sadly, this method creates drills that are both extremely easy to break and have poor coloring. Diamond Art Club® uses only 100 percent resin drills, which hold their color better and have a sturdier structure, lessening the chances of cracks or breaks. We also manufacture our round drills with 20 facets — far above the industry norm of 13 facets —  to give you the extra sparkle, which you deserve.

Full Drill vs. Partial Drill Kits

When shopping for diamond art kits, you’ll likely discover that both ”full drill” and “partial drill” options are available. These terms simply refer to whether the blank diamond painting canvas will be entirely covered in diamonds once finished. Full drill kits create complete mosaics, while partial drill kits have canvas areas that aren’t covered in diamonds. The choice is completely up to you.

High-Quality Packaging for Diamond Art Kits

Packaging is important when buying a product online because you want to ensure that everything will arrive in one piece. Our canvases are packed and protected in sturdy, thick, branded cardboard. It is easily recyclable and provides adequate protection for the canvas and tools inside. This strong outer packaging is also waterproof to ensure that your kit will arrive in perfect condition every single time.

There are few things as frustrating as waiting excitedly for your next inspiring project to arrive, only to have it show up damaged. Kits shipped in flimsy bags or boxes are especially vulnerable to wet weather and mishandling during shipping. Thanks to our superior packaging, you never need to worry about the diamond painting tools and canvas inside your kit getting damaged when you order from Diamond Art Club®.

Great Selection of Designs

With hundreds of different designs in a full range of themes, our selection of diamond painting kits is one of the most extensive on the market. In addition, we make sure to legally license artworks and give credit to the professional and freelance artists who created them — unlike many other companies that reprint artists’ designs illegally and without acknowledgment.

No matter what you’re interested in, you’re sure to find a design that you’ll love. Nature-themed diamond paintings make for relaxing decorations around the house, while mystical creatures work well for a child’s bedroom or playroom. Browse our entire selection to see just how diverse our designs are, or find one that speaks to you in our best sellers section.

So, Why Should You Try Diamond Painting Anyway?

Now that we’ve outlined the Diamond Art Club® diamond painting differences, here are some more of our favorite reasons why you should try one of our unique kits.

Relieves Feelings of Stress and Anxiety

For those of you thinking about purchasing a diamond painting kit for the first time, there are many great reasons to indulge in this hobby. As any crafter knows, creating art of any type can be a kind of meditative practice, encouraging you to focus on the task at hand and allowing feelings of stress or anxiety to slip away.

Improves Cognitive Function

As we get older, crafting is a great way to give our brains a workout, strengthening neural pathways and creating new connections in our brains. In fact, studies have shown that adults who regularly craft have better cognitive functioning as they age and fewer problems with memory.

Great Activity to Do with the Kids

If you’re looking for ways to spend more time with your children, especially during school breaks, why not try starting a diamond painting project together? If you want to create a collaborative art piece, sit down with them and pick a large project you both like or find smaller canvases you can work on individually. Most kits take more than one sitting to complete, so it can be a daily or weekly activity you get to spend time creating together.

Builds Important Skills in Children

Just as diamond painting and other crafts can support adults’ cognitive functioning, making arts and crafts aids children’s development as well. Any type of art will encourage your kids’ creativity, increase their critical thinking and build their communication abilities. But diamond painting, in particular, is perfect for developing fine motor skills, as it requires a great deal of patience and the precise placing of drills.

The upside is that the finished masterpiece tends to come to life more quickly, which can be very exciting for everyone!
